Forest Carbon
Founded in 2006, Forest Carbon is the long-standing project developer for UK nature-based emissions reduction projects. Operating primarily within the UK Voluntary Carbon Market, Forest Carbon has been integral to the establishment and development of both the UK Woodland Carbon Code and Peatland Code; from the underpinning methodologies, to getting the first projects certified under each of the accreditation standards.
Working with key stakeholders across both supply (land managers) and demand (corporate organisations), they have helped develop, finance and support the planting of over 13 million trees, as well as the restoration of 2,000 hectares of degraded peatlands. Their projects will go on to remove 3.3 million tonnes of CO2e from the atmosphere, whilst providing a host of important benefits to society including flood mitigation, enhanced biodiversity and increased public access.
In an evolving market, Forest Carbon recognises the importance of utilising innovative and improving MRV quantification processes to capture wider ecosystem benefits beyond carbon. They seek to work collaboratively with other leading players to overcome the current restrictive barriers and help bring in finance to scale up NBS project development.
We support the idea of an independent-industry led membership organisation like the NFCA to help drive the scaling up of a much needed high-integrity nature market.
Forest Carbon is proud to be an employee-owned company since 2023.
